The Ferrari 212 Inter replaced Ferrari's successful 166 and 195 Inter grand tourers in 1951. The 212 Inter was a longer car, built to accept more accommodating and comfortable bodies. By this time Ferrari's most prolific supplier of bodies was Carrozzeria Vignale, this house was established in the second half of the 1940s by Alfredo Vignale, who had a homespun way of designing and who made a remarkable contribution to the rich history of Ferrari design.
