Dave Charlton replaced the 4-cylinder Coventry Climax previously fitted in the chassis of his Brabham BT11 of the Scuderia Scribante by a more efficient Repco V8 for the 1968 South African GP. He was ahead of his compatriots on the starting grid who also entered their national GP and with whom he regularly fought hard during the South African championship.
