The transfer of the oil reservoir from between the body and the engine, initially cantilevered behind the gearbox, significantly increased the wheelbase of the Lotus. John Watson in Germany (S7129), Jim Crawford in Italy (S5347) also drove this 72F alternately with Brian Henton for whom the US GP, was his third race .
